Review – Nipsey Hussle – The Marathon Continues

TheSource.Com

It’s been eleven months since Los Angeles MC Nipsey Hussle released his “The Marathon” mixtape, which left listeners all over the nation thirsty, yearning for more but he’s back with the sequel.  “The Marathon Continues” dropped on 11.1.11 is a motivational, uplifting, head bobbing display of endurance.

TMC begins it’s 14 track race with the song “Road To Riches” which catches listeners up on “The Marathon” & the time which has passed since it’s release on 12.21.10.  The next song “Who Detached Us” inspires all with enlightening words from Steve Jobs.  Then Nipsey teaches us how to “Run A Lap” around the rap game while remaining confident with lines reminiscent of HOV like, “I’m game tight so niggas will never play me.  Four words for my haters, Fuck You Pay Me.”  The next tune “Thas Wat Hoes Do” is a 5 minute & 15 second dedication to a special breed of women, which features YG & Rimpau going in on the beat.  On track 5 the Snoop Dogg affiliate talks about “Everythang” & on track 6 its “Fly Crippin” with Cobby over Drake’s “Headlines” beat.  “I Need That” is a West Coast banger that features Nipey’s propensity for playerism & Dom Kennedy followed by “Forever On Some Fly Shit” & “Tommy Gunz” featuring Yung Brodee.

The Marathon continues with “They Know” & “Rose Clique”, my two favorite songs on the tape.  Finally it’s “10 Toes” & then “The Mansion” where we live the dream along side this California legend.

The album wraps itself up with the “Outro” which takes us back to the same frame of mind as the first track.  Listeners are left with a new ambition & plenty to ponder as Diddy describes the separation between himself a marathon runner & the listener.

Although we may find solace in TMC, the anticipation for “South Central State Of Mind” has definitely begun.
