X returns to New York City

Last night, Ghetto Metal at S.o.B’s received a boost of energy to the fifth degree. To mark his return, DMX headlined an exciting event that still has people talking about it.

The night began with openers from The Murder League All-Stars, a cross breed with a sound and look of Cypress Hill-meets-Beastie Boys-meets-Rage Against The Machine. Following their heavy set, D-A The Future and his dope band ADD which consisted of strings, keys, drums and a female with a great voice did their thing as well.

Bazaar Royale who put it all together, also performed a genre-bending array of music. After a few individuals in the crowd became a little anxious, Bazaar had to put them in their place and remind them why this was all possible. In the same breath, he sent positive messages of the importance of being yourself, the mission statement for Bazaar’s brand Ghetto Metal. In between sets, DJ Mary Mac held down the 1’s and 2’s spinning throwbacks with the best of todays hits!

Former BET 106 & Park host A.J. Calloway then maneuvered his way through a crazy crowd to announce the arrival of the one and only DMX, with 10 minutes passing in between. Bazaar returned to the stage to get the “D…M…X” chants going before security bum-rushed Earl to the stage sometime around 11:40. Timbs and hoodies were the required dress code.

DMX wasted no time getting it in. The stage was so crowded that after a couple of songs, a sense of claustrophobia set in as DMX shooed photographers and strangers off the stage. Midway through, X announced a familiar face who was in attendance. Reliving a brief moment of a Ruff Ryders reunion, Swizz Beatz joined X on stage and brought back feelings of nostalgia. By the way, “Get It On The Floor” sounds 10 times better in a packed house.

DMX’s set was lengthy, but never dipped in energy. His usual passing of the bottle into the front of the crowd was the quietest moment of the night, yet X seemed to have that aura of appreciation for the opportunity to rock NYC, once again. Afterwards, X took time for interviews, short convos with fans, photos and yes, even photographs.

Before leaving he noticed his Now-n-Laters were eaten by someone and warned if he smelled the scent of the candy he would….. let’s just say he wasn’t going to wait ’til later. S.o.B.’s frame may have moved a foot out of place but I’m not sure anyone will rock that stage again as hard as DMX did.
