New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow were selected by Time magazine as two of its “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.”  I can’t say that this surprises me; Tebowmania and Linsanity flooded the media market.

Tim Tebow rose to stardom when he turned the Denver Broncos season around and even got them to the playoffs and a stunning overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Tebow again made headlines when he was traded to the New York Jets.  Tebow’s unorthodox QB style and crazy comeback wins made him the topic of many discussions but his devotion and openness to the Christian faith is what made him a worldwide phenom.

Jeremy Lin’s rise to fame was somewhat similar to Tebow’s because injuries led to them finally getting a chance and shocking the world.  Short at the point guard position Mike D’Antoni put Jeremy Lin in the game and his life was forever changed.  He turned the Knicks losing streak into a winning streak even defeating the great Kobe Bryant.  He’s since had some trouble and is now out after having surgery for a meniscus tear in his left knee.

I would say it’s a little early to put Lin on such a list but after covering sports during Linsanity I have to admit EVERYTHING was about Jeremy Lin.  Congratulations to both Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow, they both work extremely hard even off the field and pose as great influences.
