Aside from the requisite cheering for the heroes, admiring of the 3D combat scenes, and praising of Sam Jackson’s ever-lasting gangsta (even in his early days acting as a crackhead, he’s boss), when watching the soon-to-be-declared blockbuster The Avengers (in theaters May 4), a true Hip-Hop head couldn’t help but to imagine what a parallel universe might look like (emcees have been trying to save the music since the turn of the new century).

This year, in the latest installment from the Marvel movie franchise that has netted hundreds of millions with “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America,” the fantastic three band together with The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye to thwart a global takeover helmed by Thor’s “adopted” brother Loki.

“I’d like to think that one of the reasons that Marvel characters have been so successful is when we created them, we tried to give them interesting personalities and personal problems so people would still be interested in them even if they didn’t have superpowers,” said Stan Lee, who along with Jack Kirby created the series first published as a comic book in 1963.
