The family of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, Malcolm X, joined L. Londell McMillan and the NorthStar Group, the Malcolm X Foundation, Source Magazine, and the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center to jump start “Malcolm X Weekend” at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Harlem. New York residents and out of state visitors convened to Declare, “May 19 as Malcolm X Day!” weekend celebration. The Family’s Annual Malcolm X Birthday Celebrations have furthered the tradition established bytheir mother, Dr. Betty Shabazz, to commemorate Brother Malcolm’s legacy of service to humanity and continue his efforts to properly record history as a source of inspiration and empowerment for future generations. Mr. McMillan helped to relaunch the Malcolm X Foundation which spearheaded the celebration and produced this event which shell become an annual event honoring Malcolm X. The inter-generational celebration featured scholarly speakers including Cornell University’s Dr. James Turner, former City College University professors, Dr. Leonard Jefferies and Professor James Small, Pathfinder Press publisher Steve Clark, former investigator and Malcolm X biographer, Les Payne as well as hip hop and spoken word artists including Autum Ashante, rapper Tito Lopez, author Tashera Simmons, Imam Talib, Professor James Small and a drum set by Shabu.

The Malcolm X Foundation is the primary caretaker of all things Malcolm X, that purposes to safeguard the likeness, image and legacy of Hajj Malik Shabazz, Malcolm X.
