Big K.R.I.T.’s debut album on Def Jam Records, “Live from the Underground” is in stores today. He appeared on The Combat Jack Show this morning to not only discuss his deal with Def Jam and the new album, but the struggles of his artistic past.

He described himself at the end of 2009, walking back to his home in Mississippi “with some noodles and s***.” He received a call from Johnny Shipes who expressed his interest to work with him for six months; K.R.I.T. then said something extremely interesting: “just like that, God was like, I got you. Because I was going to go back to the crib and work on the railroad…” As a signed, successful artist on the day of his debut album release, it must be empowering to look back on the railroad job that could have been.
