Chris Johnson raised some eyebrows when he compared himself to Lebron James.  After coming off a disappointing season the Tennessee Titans running back says he can relate to Lebron James with all the criticism he’s received.

“I kinda put us in the same category,” Johnson said Tuesday at Titans minicamp. “He gets a lot of criticism just like I do. I like how he bounced back the year after he got a lot of criticism. Came back, got MVP and hopefully can get his team a championship.

“He just gives me motivation to bounce back for this year, seeing the things that he came back and did, proving the naysayers wrong. I kind of look at him as a guy like me.”

I understand where Johnson is coming from with pressure on him and the criticism but their situations are entirely different.  Lebron James is arguably the best basketball player in the world and is playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.  Anything less than a ring is concerned a failure for Lebron.  Chris Johnson is a running back for the Titans, they are not expected to win the Super Bowl led by him, he is expected to rush for around 1,500 yards and score touchdowns.

Both guys are tremendous athletes but they also have in common the putting my foot in my mouth trait.  Lebron is the self-proclaimed “King” and everybody remembers his infamous “not one, not two, not three…” but multiple championships quote.  Chris Johnson declares he’ll lead the league in rushing and still considers himself the best running back in the league despite subpar play.  But as Johnson said in his quote Lebron bounced back after a disappointing end to last year so hopefully he can do the same.
