Papoose continues to push the issue of Chris Lighty’s supposed suicide.

When Chris Lighty passed, Hip-Hop stood at attention. The loss of one of Hip-Hop’s elite business minds was a shock to everyone. However, many of todays minds questioned why Lighty would take his life…

The Source honored Chris Lighty in the October/November with a posthumous feature on Lighty titled, Into The Light. Within those pages Lighty’s cousin, A.B stated, “[NYPD] just going on what they thought. There’s no note around the house saying ‘I don’t want to live no more… He was in the greatest mood for a long time. Why would he even do something like that?” Those questions have not faded, in fact they are growing by the day.

Late last year, 50 Cent stepped forward and called for an investigation which he would fund. But in 2013 we are still in the same position we were following his death.

This weekend New York MC Papoose resurrected the issue during his yearly “Obituary” track. “Chris Lighty, Hip Hop shed a tear… He gave birth to so many careers… Born May 8th, 68′, in the Bronx, used to carry records for Red Alert, he was smart… Started Violator, made it better… He helped me with my career, we took a million dollar deal together… The cause of his death? They say suicide… But anybody who knows Chris sees through the lies.”

Those apparent lies have not been sought out nor have we found the possible person(s) who was willing to take the life of one of Hip-Hop’s fundamental minds. Looking back on that feature in The Source, Blue Williams brings up a true point, “I spend a lot of time trying to figure it out and I had to come to a place where no matter what, Chris is gone. Everyone has their opinion, but at that end of the day, he’s still gone.”
