Yesterday we had the privilege of attending the GRAMMY U Presents “Era Of The Engineer” event with three-time Grammy Award nominated engineer/A&R Young Guru at the Clive Davis Institute in NYU.

The room was packed with NYU students and different media outlets that came to hear Young Guru share his knowledge in audio engineering and music creation. The event started with Ebro, program director of Hot97, speaking on the importance of Young Guru in the Hip Hop industry, Ebro then goes on to introduce Young Guru to the people in attendance.

Guru opens the “Era of The Engineer” event by providing a brief description on his come up in the industry, from the early days of being a DJ, rolling with Puff and Bad Boy records and being a tour DJ for Nonchalant. Guru then goes on to talk about the knowledge he received attending Omega Recording Studios and how that experience inspired him to know exactly what he wanted to do in the Hip Hop.

Guru then speaks on some of his mentors that helped him throughout his career like Chucky Thompson and Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie. The Grammy nominated engineer shared his different work experiences he has had with the likes of Jay-Z, Freeway, Camron, Memphis Bleek and others. Young Guru then closed out the event with a Q&A from the NYU crowd.

We thank GRAMMY U and Young Guru for the amazing experience and the lessons learned from the great mind of Guru.
