The life of the late Chris Kelly of Kris Kross was celebrated yesterday in a beautiful service at Atlanta’s Jackson Baptist Memorial Church.

Three hundred of Kelly’s friends and family attended the funeral, including the confidant and one-half of the Kris Kross duo, Chris Smith, and Jermaine Dupri, who discovered the group. As a nod to the 90s duo’s legacy and infamous fashion statement, it’s been reported that Dupri and Da Brat wore their pants backwards.

The outpouring of love for Kelly was unabashed, as his parents and close friends struggled through tears to lament about their loss. “It’s been a struggle for me everyday, but there was a peace that came over me this morning because I know he’s in heaven,” said Smith in commemoration of his friend’s life.

Kelly was found dead on May 1; he was 34. At the moment police believe Kelly’s death was caused by an apparent drug overdose. Kelly’s mother and uncle have reported that the rapper had a history of drug use and experienced health issues as a result.
