As part of  SoulCulture’s mental health campaign, #OKNotToBeOK, J. Cole discusses experiencing depression for the first time whilst crafting his anticipated sophomore album, Born Sinner. In this piece, Cole gives us some insight into the overlook of his new album saying its a gradient of dark to light or “hell to heaven, depression to happiness”.

“There’s a mentality that I had that was never shaken, it was quiet, it wasn’t outspoken, it was all in [my head]. The minute that changes and now I’m dealing with a mindstate I’ve never had to deal with before – which is fighting all these negative thoughts – that’s the dark place I’m talking about.”

We get a look on how the pressure & depression effected his album when it drops on June 18th.
