Cane is the name and its time to get familiar

Earlier this week, we gave you a glimpse into the DMV emcee Cane who premiered “Checking for Me” off his latest offering ‘Lucid Dreams.’ With the Virginian native making quite the buzz in his region and dropping the next chapter in his career, it’s only fitting to ask, “Who is Cane?”

Hailing from Fredericksburg, Virginia, Cane has been perfecting his craft for quite some time while pursuing his love for sports as well. The lyrical wordsmith spent his college years at Virginia Military Institute playing football, a passion that would transcend into his music. It’s evident that when combining sports and hip-hop, Cane knows where his strengths are but that doesn’t even remotely limit the MC from tackling anything that’s thrown his way.

While you may be unaware of Cane’s movement, he has undoubtedly clocked some time in the game and has created quite the movement for himself. Participating in FLO 106.5’s the Beat Contest, Cane was a finalist and opened up for the likes of Estelle, Ace Hood, Ray-J, Mario and more at the station’s “Beat Block Party.” He also received radio play for his single “I Do Work.” Cane’s prominence in the region afforded him the opportunity to partake in the DMV cypher alongside Fat Trel, Phil Ade & Tabi Bonney, but Cane is no stranger to freestyles and has hopped on plenty of notable cyphers leaving them crippled after unleashing his lyrical ammo.

Cane has built a team and with that group of individuals he has amassed a collection of hits and videos alike. His determination to only deliver excellence is evident which predominately reflects in the quality of his videos, whether they are quick lighthearted freestyles like “Kelly Kapowski” over Tyga’s “Rack City” or serious drawn out projects like his acclaimed “Grassroots Tangent.” There’s no denying that the established artist takes his craft seriously. Cane’s originality doesn’t prevent him from hopping on notable tracks and getting reckless as he’s done with his rendition of “Suite & Tie” and even recently hopped on a Harry Fraud beat with “All You Get.”

Today is the day. Cane has dropped ‘Lucid Dreams’ and after coming off his acclaimed 2012 release ‘Destruction’ which garnered the attention from the likes of Kevin Nottingham, the emcee is ready to take it a step further. Teaming up with executive producer Lou Burna, the frequent collaborators have pieced together another solid body of work. ‘Lucid Dreams’ highlights original creation from Burna as well as recognizable production from the legends in the game. With Cane taking on the main act for Live At The Grill Again Music Showcase, sponsored by SportsZone, ‘Lucid Dreams’ is here to propel Cane into the spotlight he rightfully deserves. As he once said “I’m getting closer to the top so just call me Lebron’s headband.” Damn.

This only scratches the surface of Cane’s work and you can check out more from the DMV artist here.
