9. Trunk Muzik Returns
Yelawolf
(Slumerican/Ghet-O-Vision Entertainment)
On A$AP Rocky’s “1 Train”, Yelawolf declared “Radioactive’s going gold”, referring to his debut album, which was released two years ago this November. The stat serves as a backhanded compliment, for it could mean either of two things. Either an album that sells almost 60,000 copies in its first week on the shelves has a pretty good chance at going gold in two whole years, or over time, people simply warmed up to Yelawolf’s music, and found Radioactive a necessary addition to their album collection. We’d like to believe the latter, and while Trunk Muzik Returns isn’t nearly the slow-heater Radioactive was, with contributions from A$AP Rocky, Big K.R.I.T. and Paul Wall, upon arrival it’s had a significant impact, as we’re sure Yelawolf will in the years to come.
