How much are they really worth?
Inspired by Versus, Jay-Z’s boastful interlude on Magna Carta Holy Grail, Businessweek released a digital graph detailing rap’s highest paid artists and the fortunes they claim against their real net worth and annual earnings. Featuring names such as Nicki Minaj, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Diddy, the chart interactively displays a lyric mentioning a certain amount of money that an artist claims to have or spend. The graph then highlights where they actually stand on estimated net worth calculations provided by Forbes.
It seems that Jay-Z was hinting at something on Versus as he spit a dime of a bar: “The truth in my verses, versus, your metaphors about what your net worth is.” Followed by his brave and presumptuous laugh, Hov hits the nail on the coffin with this one. Rappers’ fortunes have been a sought out topic for a while now, as Jay-Z separates himself from the field alongside Diddy and Dr. Dre the trickle down is in affect.
