Hip-Hop hasn’t always been supportive nor appealing towards women because of its constant objectification of the female body, but now its not only okay; it’s encouraged and promoted.

Not discrediting all female artists, but some simply just do not care and would rather spike their sales rate than be feminist of the year. Given that the times have changed so has the music being played, enjoyed, and twerked to. From looking borderline nude with slim to no clothes on to following the trends of drugs, fashion, and music; white women have put their foot in hip-hop’s front door.

Like it or not, celebrities like Chanel West Coast are now stepping up to the plate to swing away at hip-hop and pray for a hit. Signed to Young Money, Chanel transitioned herself from a model/receptionist into YM’s female rapper. Never knocking the grind, hers or any, but who ever saw that coming give me a heads-up next time you place a bet.

Another model who turned to hip-hop is Paris Hilton. Known for her sex tape and wealthy family who own Hilton hotels, Paris recently signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money, joining Chanel, for her second album focused more towards house music. Her first album ‘Paris’ actually hit Billboard’s Top 10 Album Chart but received “mixed” reviews.

Miley Cyrus on the other hand, who originally went by Hannah Montana, has made a massive change over the years from singing ‘cute’ songs to now releasing provocative videos stuffed with sexual innuendos. Not to mention the uproar of booty shaking videos caused by the twerking sensation, Miley, when she dropped it low for Juicy J during his live performance.

Iggy Azalea is another model turned rapper but has put in her time in the game and steadily continues to gain ground in the industry. She ran with Hustle Gang’s T.I. for a minute before switching over to Def Jam and has been pushing her latest single “Bounce,” off her upcoming album The New Classic.

The latest celebrity that has everyone buzzing is former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes. Bynes has gone viral with her “ugly” comments about celebrities and off-the-wall tweets claiming to love an artist only to quickly demean them after. Bynes spoke of making a rap album which everyone discredited until Waka Flocka came to the rescue claiming that all the backlash indicated she was “popping.” Then began the rumors of her signing with his Brick Squad Monopoly label, but that has yet to be verified.

Let’s not forget, these women are co-signed by major hip-hop artists who control top labels such as Birdman, T.I., Lil Wayne, Waka and more.

Is the major co-sign enough? Will this be an on-going trend of natural born celebrities, models, and childhood actresses transforming into hip-hop enthusiasts? How will this change the game?

Only time will tell.
