The young Brooklyn upstart has been hailed for the better part of the last year as the face of New York’s return of the boom-bap rap. He’s handled the pressure nicely, putting out his critically acclaimed 1999 mixtape last year, and two other projects (Pro Era’s PEEP: The Aprocalypse, and his Summer Knights), and touring globally and nationwide, most notably this year’s Under The Influence Tour, which showcased his skills alongside Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, Trinidad James, & B.o.B. Despite not having a song on the radio, Joey’s music has reached the hearts of thousands of New Yorkers, which clearly meant something as he was offered a deal to be a part of Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. So, when Kendrick screams out he’s the king of New York, Joey should certainly be a tad bit upset about that, which, he was, according to his Twitter.
