French is probably New York’s most recent Cinderella story, putting out a slew of mixtapes over a span of quite a few years, eventually culminating in his debut album finally being released this past May. Unfortunately, the album only sold some 40,000 odd copies, and other than “Ain’t Worried Bout Nothin”, hasn’t really spawned a hit. Considering he’s signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy label, the label that housed Biggie Smalls, the king of New York Kendrick was referencing in his verse, French should take a special offense to “Control”. After all, he grew up in the Bronx. Rap’s birthplace.
