Jake One, the influential Seattle producer, decided to rework Portugal. The Man‘s hit “Evil Friends.” Flipping it from a hard-hitting, distorted guitar dominated rock song into a dark and suspenseful hip-hop track. He wisely reached out to Danny Brown–who has just began his promotional campaign for Old, his debut album–to bless the beat with his unique wordplay.
Like the vocal sample singing “I can never be your friend,” Danny rhymes about his distrust of new dudes, and the women who are vying for his attention. The track is slow, but Brown keeps it interesting.
