Kevin Abstract is the cofounder and musical leader of ASF. The Corpus Christi emcee deserves some credit for leading and helping to form such a large collective.

Musically, he flirts with the same alternative style that previously discussed members do. In songs like “Stay Together”, Abstract finds himself singing softly on the hook, as pop synthesizers play in the background, and programmed drums keep tempo. While it’s not the most hardcore hip hop sound, it is welcomed departure from some of the overbearing tropes that we are use to. His music feels much lighter, it might have to do with the overall theme of his first album—Imagination. Abstract attempts to recreate that feeling of weightlessness that comes with daydreaming or delving into one’s head. Even when the topic turns dark, the production still retains some light hearted sounds. It sounds like 80’s music.

Abstract’s flow is a mix of rap and singing. Sometimes, he sounds as if he is just gasping for air or exhaling his words. It creates a unique experience. Added to this though, there are often moments where vocals are spliced or layered on top of each other, which adds more depth to the song. He is pretty creative, and if he could build ASF, I’m sure he is far from being done musically.
