Jay Z lives by the mantra “Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t,” and he has proven over and over again that this theory may very well be true. His newest example that numbers are never dishonest comes at the hands of his latest double platinum RIAA certification. His duet with Justin Timberlake, “Holy Grail,” the opening number on his latest album, Magna Carta… Holy Grail, sold 118,000 copies this week bringing its grand total to 2,049,000 sales since its release on July 10th. The album as a whole went double platinum last month and was technically platinum before it was even released, when one million copies were bought by Samsung for exclusive release on the tech giant’s multiple platforms before the record was even in stores. The unprecedented move forced the Recording Industry Association of America to change it’s standards on album sales certifications, leading Hov to declare that the music industry was now playing by “#NewRules.”
