Who could forget this song from the 90’s?

Today, for this edition of Fashback Friday, Her Source pays tribute to Heavy D, who was a major figure in hip-hop. On this day, he died two years ago in his home from  pulmonary embolism.

90’s group  Soul For Real was formed by the Dalyrimple brothers in 1992 in their hometown of Wheatley Heights, NY. The group won twice at The Apollo theater in the talent portion of the show and was discovered by Heavy D.

Heavy D. had just became vice president at Uptown Records when he discovered them and started working on their debut album, Candy Rain. Their debut single Candy Rain, which was produced by Heavy reached number two on Billboard Hot 100 Chart and number one on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs Chart. The remix featured Heavy, who was known to rap fast in his songs.

The song remains a favorite of all time. Not only did Heavy D. have a great ear for talent but he soon discovered rap group The Lost Boyz, and singer Monifah.

Heavy D may be gone but he is never forgotten.
