Coachella | Day TwoSure, we’ve heard Kanye’s rant about the leather joggers he brought to Fendi years ago and now everyone is wearing them. Think about all of the recent award shows and the infamous Hot 97 Summer Jam that brought out every leather trend you never thought you would see in the summer. The past few seasons it’s been all about leather, from pants to tank tops to shorts and even bikini tops. As much as we discuss our “over it” feel about the trend there must be something we like about it, because designers keep making them and we continue to buy them.

In order to fully understand why you shouldn’t be mad at the trend and actually count it as a classic fabric and piece, you have to go back to the exact point where it became main stream  Hip-Hop. This year in retrospective most of the trends are deriving back from the 90s. From baggy jeans on women, baseball, hockey and basketball jerseys, menswear on women and of course unique fabrics. But’s let’s take it back to the early 90s to when all you heard on the radio was Bad Boy artists. We have to go back even further to when Sean Combs was Puff Daddy and was the main stylist for Jodeci. Creating a distinctive look for the man band out of nowhere seemed easy he was told to dress them like he dressed. In comes the leather pants, vests and the unforgettable “Jodeci boots”.

Leather was a main staple and it didn’t seem like a big fuss as to why everyone was rocking the trend. You had Mary J. Blige with plenty of leather catsuits and leather baseball jerseys, Tupac stayed in various leather vests (maybe that’s where Joe Budden captured the vest trend).

Some great and some not leather outfits walked the red carpet and was worn by plenty of your favorite artists. Not only that but many designers are basing their lines on leather pieces.

Check out Frontrow, En Noir,  Olivier Mens, Balmain, Alexander Wang and a handful of other designers make. But we as always we have you covered. Designers continue to make it, your favorites continue to wear it, you take pieces from that and voila you can’t be mad.
