One of the best remakes of 2013 has to be the American made re-creation of Park Chan-Wook’s South Korean classic, “Oldboy,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Brolin, and Elizabeth Olsen.
“The No Country For Old Men” star plays Joe Doucett, a drunken advertising exec that gets strategically kidnapped and held captive in a makeshift hotel room/prison for 20 years for a reason unbeknownst to him. After being fed the same chinese food and half pint of liquor for two decades, Joe is determined to find out who put him under those dire circumstances and most importantly, why.
Samuel L. Jackson plays Chaney, the by the books overseer of the Hostel-esque prison that Doucett was committed to after being snatched off the streets in the last drunken stupor of his life.
This Spike Lee directed box office hit boasts the blood and gore of “Scarface,” the redemption storyline of “X,” and shocking revelations that have yet to matched by any current flick on the silver screen.
“Oldboy” hits theaters nationally today November 27.
