While promoting the release of his new studio album, Black Panties R. Kelly decided to turn to Twitter to connect with his fans in a new way. The Chicago singer began hashtagging #AskRKelly and invited his fans to engage in questions about the music. He tweeted, “Getting ready to answer some of my favorite #AskRKelly questions!! Start tweeting!”
Things quickly spiraled out of hand as twitter users began using #askrkelly as an opportunity to remind the R&B legend of his promiscuous past of sex and under age women. One fan asked the singer, “Were you high off something when you started this hashtag? Where tf is your PR team?” I don’t think R. Kelly expected all of this backlash, but it’s fair to assume he’ll be hiring a new social media consultant asap.
