Drake pretty much owned 2013.  No matter who was releasing music, at whatever rate, September 24th glowed as if it had reflectors on it.  That date was marked down as the day Drake would place his stamp on 2013.  Last year was the first year since 2008 Drake didn’t release an original album, and the entire industry laid in wait to see what he was cooking up.  They weren’t disappointed.  With the assistance of his trusted right hand, 40, Drake painted an insanely entertaining picture, complete with (authorized) Whitney Houston samples, his best Marvin Gaye imitation, and endless bars.  It wasn’t drawn out and gut-wrenching like Take Care, it was concise and to the point, which made its impact that much more effective.  He made you feel as if you had “made it”, when in reality, he was just impressing upon you that he did.  Nothing Was The Same may just be Drake’s most complete work, and when things like So Far Gone and Take Care exist, that’s a serious accolade.
