Meek‘s star had been rising at a quick and unstoppable manner leading up to the release of his monstrous career defining mixtape Dream Chasers 2.
Unfortunately his debut album Dreams & Nightmares, which followed shortly after, was viewed by many as a disappointment from a song & sales perspective and fell short of the magnitude many had expected post DC2. It’s saving grace is the success he found later on with the albums opener “Dreams & Nightmares” or as it’s become ubiquitously known as “The Meek Intro”. Unless you’ve lived under a rock the past year you know at one point you found yourself getting wayyy to intense yelling “hold up wait a minute.. yall thought I was finished”.

The inimitable success of “intro” combined with Meek’s willingness to engage and playfully spar with the hot topic Kendrick Lamar created with his “Control” verse has managed to keep Meek as one of the top young players in the game. This years Dream Chasers 3 mixtape was also very well received and showed on certain cuts – especially the tribute track “Lil Ni**a Snupe”- a level of song making that people need from this top tier figure in the game. Sophomore albums can make or break an artist, the task is made even harder when you’ve been relegated by some as an artist who people may check for consistently but don’t necessarily anticipate albums from; but if we were betting, our moneys on Meek!
