Yung Simmie brings us a new short flick that takes on a new visual twist. Along with rapper Nell, the semi-black & white video for “Strap In My Lap” goes deep into the depths of Dade county in the SBHW Films production. The references made by the young rapper brings up an old topic in the Hip-Hop community that is argued back and forth to this day: Is gun violence an credible topic to rap about?

Though Yung Simme isn’t the first (and probably won’t be the last) rapper to make mentions of weaponry in music, it puts the topic in retrospect along with other subjects like drugs, sex, and physical violence in any genre of music. If other rappers aren’t condemned for it, then should we feed into it or strike it down? But if we strike them down, should the music of rappers like The LOX, Gunplay and more be judged for their constant references to these topics?
