Tumblr, MediaTakeOut takes Lupita Oscar win hard
The gorgeous and amazing 31-year old Kenyan actress is still on the high of winning her first Oscar for “Best Supporting Actress” at the 86th Annual Academy Awards this past Sunday. This win
also allowed her to become the 7th black woman to won an Oscar and also has put her in the club of the few actors who have won an Oscar for their debut performance in a feature film. Don’t forget to add the fact that she’s won Screen Actors Guild Award’s, won a slew of other awards, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
However, some people just don’t like to see people shining. Let me rephrase that. Some people just don’t like to see black people shine. One Tumblr user took to social media to express how she felt toward Lupita Nyong’o’s recent win.

It’s complete hatred towards Lupita and her hard work. You can’t knock this woman’s hustle. She’s breaking down barriers and opening doors for a lot of people. She’s helping people believe in dreams again. If you hate what this woman is doing as a positive role model maybe you should look inside yourself and figure out what it is ABOUT her that you don’t like. I can guarantee that it’s probably not a valid reason.
Everybody loves us when we’re shown in a negative light, but the minute we’re shown in a positive light all I see is negative comments. Regardless, Lupita hasn’t just won for herself, but for every other child that has big dreams. During her Oscar speech, the actress had this to say to her younger audience:
When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.
