Diabetes affects 25.8 million people according to the CDC. Currently in the United States diabetes affects 215,000 individuals under the age of 20. That figure is huge! It is a major cause of heart disease and stroke, and is also the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. Needless to say this is a phenomenon that cannot be ignored, so we have to be fearless in our approach to this epidemic. There are some things however that we can incorporate into our diets to help with diabetes types 1 and 2.

Cinnamon:
Cinnamon mimics insulin in the body and may decrease your need for insulin in immediate situations. Try adding ½ teaspoon per day

Vitamin C:
Vitamin C has the ability to normalize your sugar levels within 30 days. Add up to 600 mg to your diet daily.

Olive Oil:
Olive oil can reduce your blood sugar levels. Prior to going to bed each night simply drink 1/4 cup of olive oil.

Fig leaves:
Fig leaves are known for having anti-diabetic properties. You can either boil the leaves or you can take fig extract.

These are just a few suggestions of everyday items that you can add to your diet to help control your diabetes. Also a plant based diet (vegan, raw food, vegetarian) is also recommended by the American diabetes Association. Addressing the issue of diabetes is important because two out of every three people with diabetes die of a heart attack or stroke. The goal my friend is not simply to get a handle on this issue, but ahead of it. Follow me on Instagram @MelanatedBeauty
