After announcing that he will be attempting a career in baseball earlier this year, Tracy McGrady made his debut yesterday (4/16). McGrady, a seven-time NBA All-Star, was invited to spring training with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and, in his first game, actually started as the team’s pitcher in a scrimmage against Alvin Community College.

At only 34 years young, McGrady is still very athletic, allowing one run on three hits in one inning of work, and he threw nine of his 15 pitches for strikes. Not too shabby for a first timer in a new sport. That’s a lot of pressure and a lot of eyes, but he his lengthy NBA career aptly prepared him for those moments. Since McGrady is a non-roster invitee, he will have to impress the management in order to make the team permanently.

The Skeeters currently have 34 players on their roster, but have to trim it down to 27 by April 24.
