It was an emotional moment yesterday when Michael Sam made history and became the first openly gay man in the NFL. With the 249th pick of the NFL draft, the St. Louis Rams selected the 2013 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Michael Sam.
With cameras surrounding him as he got the call, he was extremely emotional, breaking down in tears as his boyfriend consoled him. He later rose up, faced his boyfriend and kissed him on national TV.
The moment sent the social media world into a frenzy with many rejoicing about Sam’s triumph while others were disgusted and unwilling to accept it. Either way it was big and probably won’t be the last.
“Thank you to the St. Louis Rams and the whole city of St. Louis,” Sam tweeted afterward. “I’m using every [ounce] of this to achieve greatness!!”
