In case you’ve had your head buried under a rock today, today is Malcolm X’s birthday.  As a tribute to the aggressive African American icon, Bronx native Mickey Factz delivers a lyrical history of the intellectual god’s life.

Over a soulful backdrop provided by Aleem Bilial, Mickey Factz paints a moving picture of Malcolm’s traumatizing childhood in Omaha, Nebraska. Then Factz takes us to Red’s trap or die days in Detroit and Harlem on through his cocaine habit and home invasion days in Boston with his codefendants, Shorty and Sophia. While this is a dope song, Factz leaves listeners hanging by ending the song with Malcolm being sentenced to ten years in Boston State Penitentiary. We would’ve loved hear his days as a NOI member over the soulful beat. For all you lazy folks out there who’d rather listen to hip-hop than read a book, “Detroit Red” should find it’s way into your hip-hop collection.
