Nail fungus according to WebMd is a condition that occurs when a microscopic fungus enters either a fingernail or toenail. More often however, fungal infections occur in toenails than the fingernails. Toenail infections are also more difficult to treat than fingernail infections because the toenail grows more slowly. Anyone can get a nail fungus regardless of age, sex, or race. The fungus simply enters the nail through a break or cut in the nail. A nail fungus infection can make nails thick, discolored, and have an odor. For people who have diabetes or a weakened immune system, WebMb also states that a nail fungus can also present serious risks.
WebMd suggests the following tips to prevent nail fungal infections:
* Avoid walking barefoot in public areas, such as locker rooms
* Keep the inside of your shoes dry and change socks frequently (100% cotton socks are recommended)
* Wear shoes that fit properly (shoes with a wide toe area and ones that don’t press your toes)
* Use absorbent or antifungal powder
Natural remedies that can remove toenail/nail fungal infections:
* Tea Tree Oil: Tea Tree Oil is an antiseptic and has fungicide properties that help greatly in the treatment of toenail fungus
* Orange Oil: Orange Oil has antifungal properties and can be used on infected toenails
* White Vinegar: For treating toenail fungus, mix one part of white vinegar with two parts of warm water. Now soak the affected toe in this solution for about ten to fifteen minutes daily until the fungus is gone
* Garlic: Garlic has antifungal properties and can be used on infected toenails
* Oregano Oil: Oregano Oil has got antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-parasitical, antiviral, analgesic and antifungal properties. Take two drops of oregano oil and mix it with one teaspoon of pure olive oil and apply the mixture on the affected area once in a day
Having a fungal infection does not necessarily mean that you’re personal hygiene is not up to par. It is important however to pay attention to your body which includes your nails. Take the time weekly or biweekly to check over your body to make sure that everything looks and feels alright. You have to be proactive with your health and determined to maintain it.
