Another celebrity makes yet another comment that tells us just how out of touch with reality some of them really are. Also, now I understand why some PR reps insist on being present during interviews.
Gwyneth Paltrow is the latest celebrity to open her mouth and say something really, really, stupid.
Just after Memorial Day (could her timing be any worse?), Gwyneth proved how out of touch with reality she and many other celebrities have become, when she came under fire for complaining about how difficult her life is when people say mean things about her online:
“You come across (online comments) about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing,” the star said. “It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing … My hope is, as we get out of it, we’ll reach the next level of conscience.”
Perhaps she was inspired by her pal Kanye West’s recent rant at his wedding, when he talked about “public warfare” on celebrities, namely he and wifey Kim Kardashian.
Either way, I’m sure waking up your cush, comfy bed in your mansion on the beach is totes the same as waking up to the sound of gunfire in Iraq–if you’re one of the lucky ones who woke up. (End sarcasm font.)
While I do agree that America’s obsession with celebrity is out of control–and that our society is voyeuristic, invasive, and obnoxious when it comes to the cult of celebrity–in no way, shape, or form would I ever compare celebrity to warfare.
I mean, do you see those outfits? Camo is so last year.
Seriously.
It’s a true dishonor and a disservice to our servicemen and servicewomen–some of whom have lost their lives–to dare compare the two.
Sorry Gwyneth, but after those statements, I’m pretty sure you can prepare for some more (very warranted) “mean” things (and by mean things, I mean expect criticism!) to be written about you for those remarks.
Please find your inner peace, because it’s obvious to the rest of us that the only war going on is the one you’re fighting with yourself. Someone who’s truly at peace cannot be easily moved by others.
You can’t change people, so be it fans or critics. People have opinions, and not everyone will like you. It’s life. When you’re in the public eye, you can expect the numbers of fans to multiply…but with that comes a multitude of critics as well.
It’s not like any of the trolls know you personally, so why take the trolling so personally? If you want to be bothered by it, fine…be bothered. It’s your right to.
But don’t you dare compare yourself to someone who’s literally giving it all (and getting paid way less) on a battlefield in some remote place you’d never even consider visiting because it’s not an A-list travel destination.
Don’t like the comments? Don’t read them.
Don’t like your job and what comes with it? Get a new one.
