Antaun Teasley, a celebrity chef who was employed by several professional athletes, was shot and killed inside Miami’s Mansion nightclub early Tuesday morning.
Teasley was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.
He was a personal chef for Heat guards Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole, along with other athletes and stars who lived in or frequented South Florida.
Police say the shooting happened around 3:40 am, after an altercation involving Teasley and the shooter took place in the VIP section of the club.
Miami Beach police Sgt Bobby Hernandez stated the victim “was found with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.”
Club goers say they heard a loud noise just moments before everyone began stampeding for the exit.
Some of the partying patrons said the DJ even made an announcement to “keep partying,” as the noise wasn’t gunshots–only for security to rush the DJ booth and shut down the music moments later.
Witnesses say Teasley tried to make his way out of the club after being shot, but collapsed.
Chalmers called the news “crazy” on his Twitter account. He also released a statement: “It’s tough, but my condolences to his family and his kids, you know, and it’ll be OK,” said Chalmers.
The famed chef’s last tweet posted to his Twitter account was a photo of a meal he’d made for Cole on Monday afternoon–turkey sausage, a sweet potato frittata, a summer salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and a beet juice.
