Kelis made a surprise appearance at the “Ultimate House Party” last night.
Smirnoff Vodka and Spotify promised fan Hannah Small the Ultimate House Party, but last night at Gary’s Apartment, the event was so much more. Held at a loft-like space in Midtown, the event was an utterly chic mashup of frat party, after-hours club, and cocktail hour. Upon entering the multilevel apartment, guests were invited to indulge in one of several novelty drink stations, one cunningly disguised as a bubble-filled bathtub, which delighted party attendees perched on for impromptu photo opps. Delightfully innovative cocktails including Smirnoff’s signature blend “Bobbing For Apples” and the vintage-inspired Cherry Whip kept guests refreshed as they milled about the party and jumped onto the dance floor to enjoy the DJ DJ JayCeeOh’s set.
But in spite of the free-flowing drinks and relaxed vibe of the party, it was the quirky extras that made guests shriek with delight. If the drinking and dance floor were a bit passé for any invitee, both top and bottom floor of the event were strewn with vintage board games and childhood amusements, from a towering pile of Jenga pieces which a group of animated guests attempted to conquer over the course of the night, to a set of oversized, blow-up bowling pins which appears to resist toppling despite the efforts of some attendees. And just when guests thought they had explored every corner, a giggling guest skated by on a miniature tricycle.
The capper to the evening was a surprise performance by singer Kelis, who performed hits including her singles “Bounce”, and “Milkshake” to the delight of her riveted audience. The Ultimate House Party undoubtedly raised the bar for house parties everywhere, but perhaps all it takes to host a truly memorable get-together is a Spotify playlist and a few bottles of Smirnoff.
