Legendary radio personality Casey Kasem passed away, early Sunday morning at 3:25 a.m., according to a Facebook post from his daughter Kerri Kasem told CNN.His death was confirmed by his agent, Don Pitts.
Kaseem was diagnosed with a Lewy body disease—the most common type of dementia and was hospitalized in Washington state for two weeks. However, the cause of his death was from sepsis caused by an ulcerated bedsore, according to a family member.
Just a month ago, one of Kasem’s children, Kerri,had a dispute with Kasem’s second wife , Jean, because she was displeased with the condition of her father’s health. Jean responded by throwing raw hamburger meat at her. Jean Kasem took her husband out of a nursing home and moved him into her home in Seattle. Last week, a Los Angeles County judge granted Kerri Kasem the authority to have her dad’s health be supervised by doctors instead.
Unfortunately, for Kasem’s children—Kerri, Mike and Julie, they did not get to spend time with their father on Father’s day.
“Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends,” mentioned in a written statement that was released by Kasem representative, Danny Deraney. “Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken … The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad.”
Kasem who has been a broadcaster for almost four decades will be remembered for shows such as “American Top 10”, “American Top 20” and “American Top 40” and “Casey’s Top 40”. He was also the voice of Shaggy from “Scobby-Doo.”
There hasn’t been any funeral arrangements announced, but according to CNN, Kasem daughter, Julie, will host a memorial celebration at her North-ridge, California, home on Saturday, June 21.
The radio icon who was born Kemal Amin is survived by his second wife of 29 years ,Jean Kasem, and four children.
