The Chicago Bulls are said to be one of the leading candidates to land free agent Carmelo Anthony should he choose to leave the New York Knicks. While coach Tom Thibodeau and Joakim Noah have reportedly been heavily recruiting Anthony, Bulls star Derrick Rose says he won’t.
Rose told Yahoo Sports on Sunday that he doesn’t plan to recruit Anthony – or any free agent, for that matter – even though he likes Anthony’s game and thinks they can play alongside each other.
Rose’s reason is simple: He said it’s “not my job.”
“My thing is if they want to come, they can come,” Rose said.
“I love Melo’s game,” Rose said. “He’s a great player. Takes the game serious. He’s consistent. He shoots the ball great. I love his heart.
“I can play with anybody, no matter who it is. I believe I can play with anyone if they step on the court with me.”
Rose has played in just 10 games the past two seasons after suffering two major knee injuries. He expects to be ready for the 2014-15 NBA season opener but questions remain about how well he’ll be able to play. Rose known for his speed and explosive play may not be the same after two knee surgeries. It’s clear that the Bulls will need additional help and Carmelo Anthony would surely be the answer. Chicago is reportedly the first stop on Anthony’s free agency schedule, but don’t expect Rose to be in on the meeting.
