Good weekend for August.
August Alsina is joining the ranks of Def Jam’s highly touted male R&B singer/songwriters, such as Ne-Yo–who recently departed for a position at Motown–and Frank Ocean and last night, at the BET Awards in Los Angeles, he was properly acknowledged for his grind. The “I Luv This” singer took home two awards, including one for Best New Artist, in which he beat out ScHoolboy Q, Mack Wilds and Ariana Grande. Later in the show, he would be joined by Trey Songz–with whom Alsina has had a public rift with for most of the year–and Chris Brown, making for one hell of a showing.
With his new video for “Benediction”, Alsina is capitalizing on the momentum. His debut album, Testimony, is currently in stores.
