For a time, Remy Ma was the female rapper in the business. Nicki Minaj hadn’t quite popped off yet, Lil’ Kim was on the downswing, and Iggy Azalea/Azealia Banks/Angel Haze were in grade school. All three singles off her debut and only album, There’s Something About Remy: A True Story, had become hits, and her crew, Terror Squad, has just come off having the biggest rap song in the country when “Lean Back” hit #1 back in 2004. Had it not been for her eight year prison stint, which is coming to an end at the end of this month, there’s no telling what the landscape of rap would be like, what with Nicki Minaj winning 5 consecutive Best Female Hip-Hop Artist awards at the BET Awards and what not.
Remy will be back on July 31st, and her rift with Nicki Minaj, which has sine calmed down, will still be the topic of discussion. Not to mention, a female rapper not named Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, has the #1 song in the country at the moment. Seems like the perfect time for Papoose’s wife to make her grand re-entrance onto the scene. We’ll be patiently waiting.
