The Chicago Bulls added Pau Gasol to their roster and as expected waived Carlos Boozer.

Boozer did not clear waivers; he was picked up by the Los Angeles Lakers with a winning bid of $3.25 million as reported by Marc Stein of ESPN.  The final year of Boozer’s contract at $16.8 million will be cleared off the Bulls salary cap.  They still however have to pay the difference of his salary minus the Lakers bid which is $13.55 million.

Boozer’s game has declined since his time with the Utah Jazz.  He averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a game last season, his lowest averages in both categories since his rookie season.  His teammates, coaches and fans of the Bulls became frustrated with his defensive lapses and inability to score at times.

It is confusing to most however why the Lakers put in a bid after shelling out new contracts to Jordan Hill and Ed Davis and drafting Julius Randle.  Still Boozer has his upsides and at $3.25 million he came at a pretty cheap price so all isn’t lost.

I wonder how Kobe Bryant feels about this…
