Almost three weeks after 24 year old Ezell Ford was killed by LAPD, the officers involved in the shooting death of the mentally challenged young man are finally being released to the public.

Officers Sharlton Wampler and Antonio Villegas, both who are assigned to the Newton Division Gang Unit, shot and killed Ford because he supposedly attempted to tackle one of the officers, causing both of them to shoot.

The LAPD stated that they were originally reluctant to reveal their identities to ensure the security of the officers from any threats against their well being.

In this particular case, it was necessary to investigate evidence brought to the department’s attention regarding potential threats to the safety of the officers and ensure that measures were taken to mitigate those threats, LAPD officials said in a statement.

Cop critics and community leaders are still suspicious of these recent revelations, especially since Ford’s autopsy results have yet to be made public.

Ezell Ford was killed just two days after Michael Brown, the unarmed 18 year old shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri.
