In a battle of former number 1 seeds, current tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki beat the fifth-seeded Maria Sharapova at the U.S. Open in New York City.
Wozniacki won her match 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in slighly over two-and-a-half hours of play.
The win over Sharapova propels Wozniacki to the U.S. Open quarterfinals, for the first time since 2011.
