Gwen Stefani took fashion week by storm. The No Doubt front woman turned fashion designer turned NBC’s “The Voice” judge returned to New York to showcase the latest threads from her line L.A.M.B, which made its runway debut in 2005. L.A.M.B. triumphantly returned to New York Fashion Week after being absent for the last past three-years, due to Gwen taking time to care for her kids along with having new son, Apollo.
Stefani opted for a presentation rather than a runway show this season. The whole thing went down at ArtBeam in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The loft-like column-free venue was transformed into something that resembled more of an art installation than a fashion space. Several projectors illuminated the space with images of models donning Stefani’s latest creations moving in slow motion on giant white screens. The center piece of the presentation space was a platform on which the models moved around in a circular fashion, like choreographed modern dancers, to a DJ who blasted mixes that can be best described as urban industrial ethnic tribe beats.
Likewise, this year’s collection closely resembled Gwen’s taste in music for the presentation. The collection, which ranged from tribal red black and orange dresses to casual powder blue sporty suits, had strong ethnic and global influences from the texture of the clothing to the colors, bright and bold, to the patterns, often black and white. The collection was full of interesting intersecting opposing styles and combinations that are signature Stefani looks. For instance a high end little black dress was embellished with white belts on its major seams and was paired with futuristic birkenstocks along with feathered Mad Max hair.
The collection, encompassed metallic high heals, futuristic birkenstocks sandals and silver sneakers. Each model’s head was adorned with heavy bold barrettes and native american feathers. Clean and simple make up with a wiled embellishment thrown in for good measure and dark nails accompanied each piece in the collection. The heart of the collection was unconventional Stefani pairings along with hidden, but intense embellishments in obscure places within the outfits.
“I’m so excited about being back at New York Fashion Week,” Gwen said in a statement. “This New Nomad collection reflects how small the world has become and how everyone is influenced by each other’s cultures. It’s a mashup of tribal and graphic prints with an Orange County girl meets Jamaican girl vibe. The collection is very colorful reflecting the mood that I’m in. It has a bohemian but still very modern feel.”
Gwen Stefani was joined by Gavin Rossdale, Rachel Zoe, Rodger Berman, Derek Blasberg, DJ Tiesto, June Ambrose, Becca Tobin, Peyton List, Danielle Brooks and Eric West. Guests enjoyed Ciroc “Love Angel Music Baby” Specialty Cocktails throughout the night. Backstage, models wore Hanky Panky by L.A.M.B. while Pantene experts styled their hair. It’s safe to say that our favorite “Ain’t no hollaback girl” returned again to give everyone another “Hella good” time at New York’s Fashion Week.
