Her collection consisted of pieces of colorful floor-length lace gowns, midi dresses with open back details, floral printed skirts, sequin embellished shorts, and A-line silhouettes with a sophisticated needlework technique. When creating this collection Stella Nolasco’s color palette was inspired by her Puerto Rican culture. Stella choose Caribbean colors of orange, yellow, white and different shades of blue that reminded us of Puerto Rico’s beautiful blue skies and oceans.

In attendance at the show were guests Whoopi Goldberg, Jerzey Dean and musician Leigh Lezark amongst others. The music was upbeat, and audience members were tapping their feet when they heard the song “Beggin for Thread” by Banks on the loud speakers. It was Stella Nolasco’s first time presenting at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and it was a huge success. Not only did they designer create a versatile collection with colorful, chic, and intricate designs, her makeup and hair choices she used complimented her collection perfectly. The two people responsible for making the models makeup and hair look romantic and flawless were MAC cosmetics artist Beatriz Cisneros, and Warren Tricomi hairstylist Mark C Mena. After the show our sister publication JONES MAGAZINE had the honor of speaking to the fashion designer herself.

Q & A with Stella Nolasco

What inspired you for your collection this season?

Stella: This collection is inspired by the romanticism of my culture in Puerto Rico. Our hand carved saints and figurines in Puerto Rico inspired me, so you’ll see a lot of Caribbean colors and metallic embellishments on my clothing similar to the Saints.

Are there any new materials you used in this collection?

Stella: My trademark I think is lace, so you will see a big variety of that and sheerness. I’m using prints but I’ve worked with all those fabrics before but as for new fabric I used for this season is florals.

What’s your favorite moment when you release your collection at a fashion show?

Stella: I love when the models are all dressed up backstage and start the catwalk that’s when I can really enjoy what I created and sadly the show only last 10 minutes.
