This is a disappointing trend

Kendrick Lamar joins a long line of rappers that have fallen victim to the unfortunate trend of musicians digging to find out when their music has been sampled, in order to sue the artist that used the sample for millions of dollars. That list of artists includes Jay Z, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Drake, and several others. This time, Kendrick is being hit with a $1 million lawsuit due to a sample that was used in one of his most significant pre-good kid, m.A.A.d. city records, “Rigamortis”. The record, which was produced by Willie B, a frequent TDE–the label Kendrick is signed to–collaborator, samples Eric Reed and Willie Jones III‘s “The Thorn”, and to the songwriters’ credit, it is a pretty blatant sample.

No word on whether or not Kendrick’s camp will be honoring the lawsuit, but compared to some of the other outlandish claims we’ve seen all year, this one is of the more legit examples.
