Daniele Watts, who played Coco in the blockbuster Quentin Tarantino film, Django Unchained, alleges she was wrongfully detained and confused for a prostitute in Los Angeles after she was seen kissing her boyfriend, Brian Lucas.

Watts, who is also known for her role in the popular Showtime drama Weeds, says it took place because the officer was prejudiced, and his judgment was influenced by the fact that her boyfriend, Brian, is white. She released a statement to Facebook, which goes as follows:

Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place. When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away.

Her statement continues on for much longer, and elaborates on several details, and you can read it in its entirety here.

Furthermore, a TMZ report that was released earlier this morning included pretty audible audio of the incident. In the audio, Watts can clearly be heard using a distressed voice as she talked with her father on the phone, and argued with the police officer as to whether or not she was required to produce proper identificaiton. The LAPD officer stated that he had been called to the scene because of an allegation of “lewd” activity, and Watts continued to maintain her innocence, even breaking out in tears after exclaiming that it was her “right to sit on the sidewalk and make-out with her boyfriend.” The TMZ report also included the fact that eye-witnesses alleged that Watts and Lucas were having sex in the passenger seat of the car.
