Tensions continue to mount in Ferguson, MO as an officer is wounded from gunfire last night while on patrol
An officer was shot in the arm last night while patrolling a community center on foot in Ferguson, Missouri. This is just one act of violence which has continued in the protest-saturated town where Michael Brown, an unarmed 18 year old was gunned down by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9.
According to St. Louis County Police Chief Col. Jon Belmar, the shooting was totally unrelated to and not committed by any of the protesters who seek justice for Brown.
“It didn’t happen within the proximity of the protest area. I wouldn’t have any reason to believe right now that it was linked in any way, shape, manner or form with the protests,” said Belmar.
According to a St. Louis County police report, the officer was conducting a “business check” at the Ferguson Community Center. When the officer spotted what is described as a “male subject”, he got out of his cruiser and pursued the subject, who ran and fired several shots at the officer, with one hitting him in the left arm.
The assailant got away and a massive search is still underway for a suspect.
In a separate incident just a few hours later, an off-duty St. Louis police officer was fired on in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting while in his private vehicle. The officer was not hit by gunfire, but has minor injuries from shards of broken glass.
As anger increases, the entire country awaits the results of the grand jury. In the meantime, Officer Darren Wilson is free on paid leave, while the parents of Brown are still mourning their son’s death.
