Unlike George Zimmerman, the killer of Florida teen Jordan Davis, Michael Dunn, won’t be getting away with murder.
Earlier this morning, Michael Dunn was found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of unarmed teen Jordan Davis, during what was said to be a dispute over loud music. Prosecutors alleged that Dunn was firing into the vehicle, shooting to kill, not shooting to defend himself.
In February, Dunn’s first trial was held. He was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder (due to the other occupants in the car with Jordan), and firing into an occupied vehicle, but a mistrial was declared in regards to the first-degree murder charge, after the jury remained deadlocked following 30 hours of deliberations.
His mistrial, however, was a success, with a guilty verdict rendered in about five and a half hours.
Dunn shot Jordan Davis back in November 2012, after the two of them exchanged words over the loud music Davis and his friends were playing. He alleged that he feared for his life and that Davis threatened him. He then fired ten shots into the car, nine of them hitting Jordan, continue to fire even as the driver of the SUV tried backing up to get away from the shooter. Dunn then left the scene.
Fox is reporting that the killer could be sentenced as soon as Friday, October 17th.
