Kendrick Lamar‘s sophomore album will be out by the end of this year, by all indications, and as a reminder of that, early last week, he released the project’s first single: the Rahki-produed “i”. The song was well-received by most, and critics praised Kendrick–who has rapped on songs by everybody from Emile Sande to Fredo Santana–for forsaking common millennial rap trends in favor of rapping about the importance of self-esteem, and loving oneself. Last night, at an educational convention dubbed “We Day” in Toronto, the Top Dawg’s top dog took the stage to perform his popular single, which debuted on the Billboard 100 in the Top 40 this week.
